Adjusting to college life can be tough to say the least, especially when it comes to food. No more home-cooked meals, kitchens to prepare food in or an abundance of storage space. Breakfast is by far the most important meal of the day because without it, it can be hard to stay focused in class and feel energized. In order to not be hangry during your morning classes, here are my five fave items to keep in your room for breakfast on-the-go.

1. Oatmeal

I absolutely love oatmeal. Instant oatmeal cups have been life changing for my collegiate breakfast habits. I simply add water to the cup, microwave it for 45-50 seconds, and then I’m ready to eat and go. I personally like the Quaker Oats cups because they have so many delicious flavors to choose from. Some of my favorites are apples & cinnamon, maple & brown sugar and honey & almonds. The list is endless. Oatmeal will certainly keep you the most full for an instant breakfast, and can be topped with fruits or nut butters of your choice.

2. Cereal

Trust me when I say that cereal is a MUST. My personal favorite is Special K Chocolatey Delight. I love cereal because it is just too easy. Pour it in a bowl, add some milk and you're ready to go. Before my 8:30 class, I just want to eat quickly and be on my way. I always keep a box of cereal and milk in my dorm to have as an option. You can use any type of milk to pair it with, or eat it with no milk at all. There are so many types of cereal that are delicious and nutritious.

3. Protein Bars

This one may seem obvious, but I promise it's the easiest breakfast snack on this list. I love protein bars because I don’t have to snack in between meals. If I sleep through my alarm -  which unfortunately has happened - I can get ready quickly and eat a bar on my way to class. My personal favorites are the Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt Kind bars and the Cool Mint Chocolate Clif Bars - can you tell I like chocolate?

4. Yogurt

I know this might seem plain, but there are so many variations of yogurt, so you will never get bored. I personally like putting granola, fruit or even some honey as toppings to make it flavorful and delicious. My go-to combo is any type of Chobani greek yogurt, Kind Almond Butter Clusters and fresh fruit. I highly recommend this breakfast item because it is healthy, and will keep you full.

5. Fruit

I stay keeping fruit in my dorm. Whether it’s from the DCT or from the supermarket, fruit is a great way to start your morning. There are so many different kinds of fruit, which makes it impossible to go wrong. Bananas, blueberries and grapes are my picks to keep my dorm room whenever possible. These are not only great for breakfast, but also serve as healthy snack options for in between classes. Bananas are my favorite because there is an unlimited supply at the dining hall, and they can be paired with everything on this list. Add bananas to yogurt, cereal, oatmeal or even alongside a protein bar and I promise you won’t regret it.
